FSSAI

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has been established under Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 which consolidates various acts & orders that have hitherto handled food related issues in various Ministries and Departments. FSSAI has been created for laying down science based standards for articles of food and to regulate their manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import to ensure availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption

FSSAI certificate has now become mandatory for all manufacturers, traders, restaurants and those who are involved in food business, commonly termed as Food Business Operators (FBOs).FSSAI License is issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), Ministry of Family Health & Welfare, Government of India. Application to commence a food business must be made to the FSSAI in the prescribed format. Based on the application and supporting documents, FSSAI will accord approval.

Applicability
Based on the annual turnover and scale of business, FBO’s have to apply for either for a license (central or state) or simple registration. The criteria specified in rules is as follows:

Turnover below 12 lakhs annually- FSSAI registration
Turnover between 12-20 crores annually- FSSAI state license
Turnover above 20 crores- FSSAI central license

Documents required to obtain License
• Copy of Aadhaar Card/ Voter identity card of Proprietor/Partners/Director/
• Authority letter with name and address of responsible person
• Property papers copy (If owned property)
• Rent agreement copy (If rented property)
• Food Safety Management System plan or certificate
• Form IX: Nomination of Persons by a Company along with the Board Resolution
• Declaration form
• Electricity/ water bill/Telephone bill / Mobile bill of business place
• Copy of Partnership Deed (In case of Partnership)
• MOA/AOA (In case of company)
• Additional document for Manufacturer
• Blueprint/layout plan of the processing unit
• Name and List of Equipments and Machinery along with the number, installed capacity and horse power used
• List of food category desired to be manufactured
• Pesticide residues report of water
